Most of the frustration we hear about roof tent setups doesn't come from the product itself. It comes from the lack of confidence with the fitting.
A pattern kept repeating itself. A customer would come to us for a roof rack, we'd fit it, they'd head off happy. Then they'd mention that fitting the TentBox themselves had been a bit of a job, or that they wished they'd just been able to sort everything in one go when they were with us.
We heard that enough times that it stopped feeling like a coincidence. Our customers were buying TentBoxes separately, fitting them after the fact, and quietly wishing there'd been an easier way. So we did something about it.
LUCARI is now an official TentBox sales partner. You can order your TentBox through us, paired with your LUCARI roof rack, and get everything fitted together in a single visit. It's exactly what our customers were asking for.
If you haven't come across them before, TentBox is a British brand making hard-shell roof tents designed for people who actually use their vehicles. The concept is straightforward: a rigid, weatherproof shell that lives on your roof rack when closed and opens up into a proper sleeping platform in seconds. Memory foam mattress, practical accessories and solid aluminium construction.
In 2025, TentBox announced their collaboration with the ultimate adventure brand – Land Rover Classic – to produce a special edition of the Cargo 2.0.
That last point matters. Land Rover Classic has worked with TentBox on expedition builds, which gives you a sense of how seriously they take the product and how well it suits the platform.
There's no fussing with a tent bag, no hunting for guy ropes in the dark, no cold ground. You park up wherever you've decided to stop, climb the ladder and you're in. It suits the way Defender owners actually travel, which probably explains why so many of our customers were already running them.
We've got a TentBox Cargo in the showroom if you want to see one in person before you commit. You can also order any tent from the TentBox range through us, as well as accessories.
It's a simpler decision than people sometimes expect. We sell both Defender 90 and 110 Roof Racks at LUCARI. From there it comes down to your plans for the vehicle and what else you want the rack to carry alongside the TentBox.
We fit a lot of roof racks and in our experience the questions worth thinking about are about use rather than fitment. Are you planning to carry anything else up top? Lighting bars, wolf pack systems, recovery boards? Do you want the rack to be part of a wider build, or is it purely for the TentBox?
Those conversations are worth having before you spend anything, and we're happy to talk them through.
Your roof rack and TentBox work as a system. When we fit them together, we're making sure the tent is mounted correctly on that specific rack, the load is sitting right, and everything opens and closes cleanly. You leave knowing the whole setup is properly done.
The alternative is what a lot of our customers were doing before: rack fitted with us, TentBox sourced and fitted separately at home, a bit of back and forth working out the right mounting position. It works, but it's more effort than it needs to be.
If you're also thinking about other additions at the same time, we can usually fold those into the same visit. Auxiliary lighting, storage solutions, recovery gear mounts. Come once, leave with everything sorted.
LUCARI is based in Rye, East Sussex, which puts us about an hour from Dover. If you're heading to Europe in your Defender, we're a practical stop before the Channel crossing.
The Alps, Normandy, the Atlantic coast of Portugal, a loop through Spain. We've seen customers head off to all of those and more. What they tend to have in common is that they wanted their kit sorted before they left rather than troubleshooting something in a French car park.
Get your rack and TentBox fitted with us, take your time driving through Kent, and cross in the morning knowing your setup is ready. If you're working to a travel date, mention it when you get in touch and we'll sort the timing.
A TentBox and roof rack fitting quite often gets people thinking more broadly about the vehicle. If you're about to take your Defender somewhere properly adventurous, it's worth asking whether the interior is up to the same standard as the roof.
We handle Defender interior upgrades in-house, including seats, dash retrims and steering wheels, all made in East Sussex by our own trim team. If you want to talk through a wider build in the same conversation as the roof rack, we're well set up for that.
We've got a TentBox Cargo on display at LUCARI, so if you want to see it in person before deciding, come and have a look. We can talk through the full range, the accessories, and what'll suit your Defender and your plans.
Get in touch with the team here to book a fitting or just to have a conversation about what you're after. No pressure to commit to anything before you're ready.
